Dust-free Jurid Automotive Brake Linings 

For almost 100 years now, JURID engineers have been designing brake pads to meet the most demanding requirements. In the past, the foremost requirement of brake pads was that they reliably halt a moving vehicle under the greatest diversity of conditions and even in extreme situations. Later, smoothness and ease of braking behaviour also became a top priority. Customers could not be expected to tolerate noise, vibrations and jolts when braking their vehicle.

Today, especially in North America, brake pads are widely expected to satisfy another major requirement: braking action should not lead to excessive and stubborn soiling of the wheel rims as this is considered a technical deficiency by the customers.

The American market research institution, J.D. Power and Associates, conducts customer satisfaction surveys among car purchasers inquiring, among other things, whether they have identified “excessive brake dust” in their vehicles. It is conspicuous that the survey results for European car manufacturers, who test and develop the safety of their braking systems on German motorways where there are no speed limits, are almost all worse than for their American or Asian competitors. The latter use so-called NAO (non-asbestos organic) brake pads which offer advantages in wear and application but have disadvantages in respect to performance efficiency.

In order to satisfy not only the additional demand of the North American market but also the rigorous braking efficiency requirements of the German automotive industry, Honeywell has launched a global design initiative. In cooperation with development centres in the USA and Australia, JURID has now successfully developed dust-reduced NAO brake pads for reputable German and international car manufacturers. These new pads combine the beneficial properties of conventional NAO pads with higher performance efficiency.
This newly developed dust-reduced brake pad is now being produced worldwide in almost all Honeywell Friction production facilities.
